Rick Townend is one of Britain's leading multi-instrumentalists,
his understanding of the Bluegrass and Old time style of music runs through
his very being, he started playing guitar and banjo in 1963 and has been
at the forefront of the British scene ever since. Rick has performed at
Cambridge Folk Festival, The Royal Albert Hall (London) and on German TV Musikladen. He has toured with Bill Clifton, Red Rector, Art Stamper, Jim Eanes, and Rose Maddox as part of their bands and of course founded and played with the fantastic Echo Mountain Band as well as the bands above. Personal styles are hard to pin down but his approach to the traditional music he plays is open and welcoming, and the music sessions he runs are usually fun to be at. He takes an active role in promoting traditional music and is the South East England area representative of the British Bluegrass Music Association - in 2003 he was honoured by being included in the Association's 'British Bluegrass Hall of Fame'. |
